Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for their new animated feature, Bobbleheads: The Movie. Based on the popular bobbleheads toys that were distributed during Major League Baseball games during the 1960s, the movie follows three bobblehead figures as they must work together to protect their family from intruders. The film stars Cher as a bobblehead, along with Karen Fukuhara, Luke Wilson, and Brenda Song.
The movie’s strong points are the action and the stereotypes that kids will relate to. For instance, the overweight white couple is portrayed as petty thieves who wear camouflage clothing. Jim’s brother speaks with a thick country accent, and the Japanese doll has computer skills. But these are minor quibbles compared to the overall quality of the film. Overall, I recommend the movie, but it’s not for everyone.
The Bobbleheads feature Cher as the titular character in the movie. The bobbleheads form an alliance to defend the collector’s home against unwelcome relatives who want to take his prized collection. While this may sound silly, it’s not the case. Cher’s character is actually a bit more complicated than he seems. But the movie does make it easy to laugh at the characters. Although the plot is a little predictable, it does have a few redeeming features.
