Bobbleheads: The Movie Trailer

The oversized bobbleheads that were once popular giveaway items during Major League Baseball games are getting the animated feature treatment. Universal is releasing Bobbleheads: The Movie this December, and the first trailer has just been released.

It’s a tame affair with some nice animation, but it does not feel like anything that should be seen on the big screen. Rather, it seems to be a relic of an era long passed.

This upcoming film is about a group of misfit bobbleheads who try to defend their home from trashy humans and a dog who crash in with plans to swap a new baseball player bobblehead for a valuable one. But with some guidance from Bobblehead Cher, they find the courage to bobble-up for an outrageous battle of wits and wobble!

Directed by Kirk Wise, the film will hit DVD and digital this December. It stars Jennifer Coolidge, Karen Fukuhara, Khary Payton, Julian Sands, Brenda Song, and Luke Wilson, and also features a special guest appearance from Cher, who is voiced as a bobblehead doll.

Cher is known for her gypsy, tramp and thief personas, but she’s also a taste-maker, a burlesque club owner and the Godmother of Pop. She’s a diva, but she also brings her own brand of whimsy to the table as a character in the trailer for the upcoming animated Bobbleheads movie.

The trailer for the Bobbleheads movie is a lot of fun, but it’s hard to be too excited for the film itself. It looks a little too much like a mix of Toy Story and Home Alone, and it’s certainly not the best looking animated movie we’ve ever seen.

It’s also pretty disorienting to see these toys nod their way through the film. They do seem to have a point to make, but it’s not clear whether it was really meant to be this bad.

While it’s easy to be critical of the film itself, it’s important to remember that a great deal of time was spent on making this. It was shot in Los Angeles, Nepal, Mumbai and Kolkata, and it was even produced in partnership with Microsoft’s Azure cloud service.

Besides the fact that the entire movie looks awful, there are a number of other glaring issues with this trailer. The main one is that the bobbling of the heads is incredibly jarring and annoying. It also seems like a shame that so much effort was put into the animation, when it looks to be of such poor quality.

There’s also a ton of terrible attempts at humour in the trailer, which is all the more frustrating because it appears to be aimed at little kids who are likely to find the whole thing entertaining if only for the bobbling. There’s also some horrendous music from Cher that you can’t help but be drawn to.
