Vault 87 is one of the most dangerous and impressive locations in Fallout 3. It’s a one-way deathtrap filled with super mutants and centaurs, but it also contains some of the game’s best loot. It’s a must-visit for every post-apocalyptic adventurer.
In the vault’s main hall, there is a room that looks like an office. The area around the room is littered with various desks, computers and other equipment. It’s in this office that you can find the coveted bobblehead.
The bobblehead depicts a Vault Boy with his arms on his hips. He is clad in the same jumpsuit as the one found in Vault 111 (Energy Resistance +5 and Radiation Resistance +10). The pose of the Vault Boy is very similar to that of the Charisma bobblehead in Fallout 4. The back of the bobblehead shows a map of the Capital Wasteland with “Vault 87” marked as a point of interest.
After completing the quest The Waters of Life, the Lone Wanderer is sent to Vault 87 by Mayor MacCready. The mayor reveals that the safest way to get there is via the Murder Pass, but he has a backup plan. The Lone Wanderer is told that a broken computer terminal in Little Lamplight can allow direct access to the vault via another route.
To find this alternative route, head to the National Guard Depot in Megaton. Enter the building, but don’t take the stairs to the offices. Instead, continue south until you reach the depot training area, then activate the switch on the left to open a door that leads to an underground tunnel. The tunnels are nine squares north and one square west of Megaton, and they connect to the WKML Broadcast Tower KT8 building. Once you arrive at the power station, look for a cistern with a white grate in the northeast corner of the building.
Once inside the cistern, you’ll notice that there is an unusually high amount of radiation present. However, you can easily fast travel from the vault’s entrance despite this. It’s recommended to collect this bobblehead before entering the building so that you can avoid getting killed by the intense radiation levels.
The vault 87 bobblehead is one of the rare collectibles that can be gathered in Fallout 3. This item gives players a permanent upgrade to their Perception skill. Acquiring the bobblehead also unlocks an achievement.
This is just one of the many bobbleheads that can be collected in Fallout 3, and it’s a must-have for any fan of the post-apocalyptic franchise. There are also other bobbleheads that can be collected, including one that increases intelligence and charisma, as well as a lockpicking ability.
While some of these can be missed in a standard playthrough, the others are very easy to find. So what are you waiting for? Check out our list of all the best bobbleheads in Fallout 3 to see where to find them. Then, use this guide to find the secret stash of bobbleheads in Vault 87!
