Funko Cuts Back on Bobblehead Quarters

The toy company Funko has a lot of bobblehead quarters to get rid of. The Everett, Washington-based firm has seen huge success in its line of Pop figures, replicating the likenesses of characters from Pokemon to Star Wars and beyond. But it’s cutting a chunk out of its stock after demand has fallen due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The firm says it’s a “prudent and responsible” move as it writes off up to $36 million worth of stock. It will take a hit on its bottom line, but it’s better to get rid of the collectibles than to pay warehouse fees on them.

A bobblehead is a figurine that appears to be nodding or shaking its head. They’re often adorned with the likeness of a famous person, and have been around for centuries. They became popular in England and Europe in the 1760s, and made their way into the US in 1842.

NBA players love their bobbleheads, and see them as a mark of their success. They’re given away to fans at games, and can become quite valuable. Having your likeness captured on the 5-inch figurine has almost become the new version of a signature sneaker or jersey worn by the team.

Players can find four different bobbleheads in Fallout 76. The Barter Bobblehead can be found in Longneck Lukowski’s Cannery, where it shares a room with the Mystery Meat jerky vendor and boosts your Bartering skills. The Speech Bobblehead can be found in Vault 95, deep inside the Glowing Sea, while the Science Bobblehead is in Malden Middle School, where it’s locked up in a room during the quest Unlikely Valentine.
