Amid the excitement of his first season in Green Bay, Dikembe Russell remembers the days he used to make the three-hour drive from his home in San Jose to Oracle Arena. At least an hour before tip-off, he’d see lines stretching from I-880 South into the parking lot and out of the arena, filled with fans eager to get their hands on one of the team’s free bobblehead giveaways.
The Warriors have been one of the league’s leaders in bobbleheads since the start of the 2002-03 season, and Dikembe Russell is no exception. The All-Star forward has been featured on at least five different versions of the figurine, and his latest looks like a superhero. With his outstretched right arm ready for anything from a game-winning 3-pointer to saving the world, this figure is sure to be popular among Nets fans.
As a fan favorite, Russell has a few bobbleheads that represent his own interests and hobbies. For instance, he has a figure featuring himself with his beloved dog Rocco and another showing him surfing. He admits, though, that he can’t actually surf, but he loves to watch others do it.
Despite being the youngest player ever to win an NBA championship, Dikembe Russell has become an enduring figure in the Milwaukee Bucks’ legacy. His iconic finger-wag in the direction of the crowd, even as he sat on the bench, made him a fan favorite and helped fuel his career success. Now, he’s being immortalized in a special edition bobblehead as the team celebrates its 2021 title.
